Why Should You Leave the Corporate World?
Ch and the 30th of the month just like clockwork. They say they have health insurance, vacation time, seniority so they are first to pick when they want to take a vacation. They tell me they have 10 paid holidays and they even get time off to go vote. In addition, they say they have a 401K for retirement and the employer will match their contribution dollar for dollar. They tell me they sleep well at night - no worries. Then they ask me, "Why would I leave my comfortable corporate job to go into Home Based Business?"
I do understand how they feel, I felt that way too, but I found that there are many benefits in operating a Home Business and sometimes our secure corporate job is not as secure as we might think. With mergers, corporate take-overs, reengineering of positions and offshore outsourcing, no one's job is secure. The greatest reason for corporate downsizing is the corporate jobs cost. Employers can hire an entry-level employee and train them to do the job of! a senior employee for one third of the cost. They can hire a part-time employee, pay them even less and not provide benefits, or send the job offshore at an even lower cost to the corporation.
Regarding health insurance, the cost is going up every year and most employers are choosing less and less coverage and allocating more and more of the cost to the employee. Employers provide basic life insurance but the employee pays for any additional coverage.
As far as the 401K is concerned, the employer will usually match the employee contribution dollar for dollar. If the employee doesn't contribute to the 401K the employer doesn't pay anything. Usually the more the employee makes the more the employee contributes and the less the employee make the less the employee can contribute. When a company offers a 401K they don't usually offer a pension too. So, unless you have a six-figure income chances are the 401K contributions may not be as much as you may like it t! o be.
